Carolina Salazar is Of Counsel to the Firm and a member of the Insurance and Reinsurance Services Group.

Her practice focuses on the representation of international and domestic insurers in litigated and non-litigated matters involving insurance coverage. Carolina provides representation to her clients in all aspects of dispute resolution for an array of complex claims involving coverage issues associated with environmental liability, toxic tort exposure, and mass tort litigation. She has defended insurers in CERCLA, RCRA and other federal environmental regulation claims involving property remediation.

Most recently, Carolina represented insurers at trial concerning corporate successor rights to insurance coverage and proceeds and bad faith.

Prior to joining Coughlin Duffy LLP in January 2016, Carolina was a Non-Equity Partner with Mendes & Mount LLP's New York office, where she practiced in the area of complex insurance coverage litigation.


• Represented international and national excess insurers in a complex coverage litigation arising out of underlying asbestos bodily injury claims under a multi-billion dollar insurance program.

• Served as co-counsel at multiple trials in defense of excess insurers facing millions of dollars in indemnification for environmental property damage and bad faith claims pending before the 14th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Calcasieu, Louisiana. A successful settlement resulted before the third phase of trial.

• Served as co-counsel in defense of multiple excess insurers in a lost policy jury trial involving millions of dollars in coverage claims arising from environmental cleanup of various rivers and estuaries in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

• Obtained successful summary judgment rulings for excess insurers in litigation involving asbestos and silica claims pending before the United States District Court of Pennsylvania.
